Welcome to Stitchy Kitty!

Welcome to Stitchy Kitty, a fun needlework design company featuring the whimsical designs of Michelle Lutzen!

Stitchy Kitty counted cross-stitch designs are humorous, fun to stitch patterns that work up quick and don't take a lifetime to finish! Many designs center around the holidays, the changing seasons, pets, family, and all those other delightful things in life that are enjoyable and make you laugh. So... if you love to stitch roly-poly snowmen, warm and fuzzy kitty cats, goofy-looking dogs, and all things "witty, wacky, and wonderful", then you've come to the right place!

STITCHY KITTY Designs in the January 2015 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework Magazine!
The January 2015 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine features two Stitchy Kitty designs! "Bah Hum Bug", a whimsical Christmas banner design on page 16, and "Woodland Critters", a wildlife journal cover design on page 24!

"Bah Hum Bug" is shown stitched with DMC floss on 32 ct. Natural Linen. I think these designs would make really cute individual pillows displayed in a basket!

"Woodland Critters" was also stitched in DMC floss on 28 ct. "Miracle Mint" Cashel linen. The pic above looks a bit washed out; the design looks much better in person and the mint linen has a subtle green tint to it that really compliments the colors in the design!

The January 2015 issue is available now at your favorite LNS if you aren't already a subscriber. Here's a picture of the front cover:

STITCHY KITTY Design in the 2014 "A Cross-Stitch Christmas" book!
I'm excited to announce that I have a design in the 2014 "A Cross-Stitch Christmas: A Heartwarming Holiday" book released by Bayview Publishing (publishers of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine)! This beautiful hard cover book contains some really wonderful designs and features full color charts and lovely photography. I am so honored to be included in such a quality publication!

Here is a pic of my design in the book, called "Be Festive" on page 98:

This design has a lot of holiday sparkle and is stitched in DMC floss, Kreinik braids, and Mill Hill beads!

Below is a picture of the book cover. You can purchase this book from select LNS and retailers or directly from Cross Stitch & Needlework magazine by contacting their customer service dept. at customerservice@c-sn.com  or 1-866-321-9550. These books come out every year so if you really enjoy them, you can sign up for their automatic program and they'll automatically arrive in your mailbox each year, no waiting! It's a great way to make sure you don't miss one and it's a nice little surprise to get in the mail before the holiday season!

STITCHY KITTY Design in the September 2014 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework Magazine!
The September 2014 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine features my "Halloween All Boxed Up" design finished as a unique bucket banner! You can see it on page 31 of the magazine.

This design was so much fun to design, with lots of bright Halloween colors! I even got to incorporate a couple of vintage style motifs, like the moon and the pumpkin on the top right. This design in stitched in DMC floss, DMC Light Effects floss, and even glow-in-the-dark floss to make the ghosts spooky! It's shown stitched on 28 ct. Twilight Cashel linen by Picture This Plus, but would also look wonderful stitched on a light grey fabric, as well.

STITCHY KITTY Design in the July 2014 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework Magazine!
The July 2014 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine includes my "Patriotic Cookies" banner design! You can see it on page 38 of the magazine.

This design incorporates lots of fun embellishments, like Mill Hill beads for the sprinkles, DMC Light Effects metallic fiber for the sparkly sugar, and Just Another Button Company buttons for the cookie accents! The cookies shown above were stitched on 14 ct. white perforated plastic and hung as a banner.

I also stitched an alternate version of this design on 28 ct Lugana and finished them as flat ornaments as shown below. I used a brighter blue floss to look more like icing and star buttons I found at a local store. Since I was stitching the designs on cookie colored fabric, I omitted the stitched cookie border around each design.

Daisy Dog

Just in time for spring, my new "Daisy Dog" design features a happy little polka dot dog surrounded by her favorite things - daisies and a dog bone!
Stitched in bright pinks and greens that really "pop" on the gorgeous "Alluring Blue" linen by Zweigart! The chartpak also includes a bonus "Daisy Dog Paw" ornament design that would make a really cute quick stitch gift!

I had so much fun designing this little pup that I think you'll be seeing more designs featuring this little dog in the future!

Toadally Nerdy

Toadally Romantic

"Toadally Romantic" is the first female toad in my "Toadally Toads" series! Show off your romantic side by stitching this sexy, sultry toad with nothing but love on her mind! You really have to see this design in person to appreciate all the details - like the mini motifs accented with sparkly Kreinik braids and the pink bustier adorned with Mill Hill beads and black Fuzzy Stuff trim! The two smaller designs can be stitched back to back to make a sweet scissor fob or hang tag. Be sure to visit the What's New? page for more details about this design.

STITCHY KITTY is the Profiled Designer in the March 2014 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework Magazine!
I'm so thrilled and honored to announce that I am the profiled designer in the March 2014 issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine! The three page article talks about how I became a designer and what influences my designs. It also includes several pics of my current designs, along with a new design I created just for this article called "A Snail's Garden":

A Snail's Garden

The design is stitched on 28ct hand-dyed Jobelan with DMC floss. It's also embellished with some cute buttons by Just Another Button Company. I'm so impressed with the way they finished it as a bright pink tote bag, I think it looks adorable! They have some really amazing finishers and they always photograph their models to make them look so appealing. I just love this magazine!

The March 2014 issue is available now, so you should be able to pick it up at your favorite LNS if you aren't already a subscriber. Here's a picture of the front cover:

The first in my new "Toadally Toads" series, "Toadally Arrrgh!" features three ornery designs sure to please pirate lovers everywhere! Toadally Patriotic

The second design in my "Toadally Toads" series, "Toadally Patriotic" features a whimsical Uncle Sam toad dressed up in his patriotic best! Where Did I Find Those Star-Shaped Metal Floss Rings?
One of the most popular questions I was asked at the Celebration of Needlework show (after "will you be designing more toads?" Answer: yes!) was "where did you find those cool star-shaped floss rings that you used for the smalls in your toad designs?"

I found them at this really cool website called Anita's Little Stitches !
She sells pink, red, and purple heart-shaped floss rings (which will be featured in an upcoming Toadally Toad design), too! Be sure to browse through her entire website to see all the unique stitching goodies she has to offer!

Have You Checked Out the Stitcher's Gallery?
Be sure to visit the Stitcher's Gallery Page to see pictures of finished Stitchy Kitty projects!

If you'd like to submit a picture of your finished Stitchy Kitty project(s) for the Gallery,  just send me an email with your picture as an attachment to meow@stitchykitty.com . Put the words "Stitchy Kitty Gallery" in the Subject line and please send pics in either JPEG or GIF format and preferably sized at about 500 pixels. Be sure to let me know how you'd like to be identified with your picture, either with your name and location (Michelle from Maine) or with your online nickname (SuzieQStitcher).

I'd especially love to see pics where you've finished a Stitchy Kitty design in a way that's different than how I finished the model, such as a flat fold, cube, ornament, anything goes!

Just Added to Stitchy Kitty Gallery!

Here is "Meow Spoken Here" stitched by Elaine in Wisconsin! I love the way she finished the outside of the ornament with kitty paw print ribbon and colorful stick pins! And the paw print fabric she used for the back is just adorable!

Visit Page 9 of the Stitchy Kitty Gallery to see a larger pic of Elaine's finish, along with her matching "Woof Spoken Here" finish! And be sure to check out all the other wonderful finishes in the Gallery!
